The Plated Prisoner Series by Raven Kennedy

Magical, Fantasy, Romantasy, Fae, Magic, Strong Female Lead, Multiple POVs, World-Building & Legend

Spicy factor: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (Out of 5)

It’s a cool concept - we all know the story of King Midas and his golden touch. But what if it was never him at all, and instead a magical, gilded woman he keeps close to him to preserve his façade and manipulation for power?

If you like fairy tales and want to get into Fantasy, but worry about following too many characters with multi-syllable names (Dune, Game of Thrones, looking at you.), this is a great bridge to cross.

Hot take: Holy crap Book 4 did not need to be 800 pages, but I guess we needed the character development?

Random Thoughts

In looking for book cover photos just now, I found out why I was having such a hard time with Goldfinch (Book 6) - because I thought this was a five book series and completely skipped over Gold (Book 5). No freaking wonder I felt like nothing made sense.

So I’m extra grateful to be starting the Saturday Stacks newsletter today, because otherwise, I would have finished the series and gone… ‘Well that political skirmish escalated quickly’ and ‘Where did that baby come from?’ (JK I don’t know if there actually is a baby, but you get the point.)

This series was recommended to me by another bookworm who has sort of ovelapping Romantasy interest to my own. She loves Fourth Wing/I love ACOTAR. She says she likes the story and not the spicy stuff but…girlfriend just posted on FB that she’s starting Sara Cate’s Salacious Players Club series (More on this in future) which is 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️, so maybe she’s coming to my world.
